I started the month celebrating Earth Day with the amazing community at Proctor Academy. It was a moving experience, shared with artist Yuko Oda, communicating about my art journey, process and inspiration. At the workshop I offered, the students were engaged, receptive, and imaginative about painting intuitively using repurposed materials, while reflecting on solutions about the environmental crisis.
Thinking about solutions to the climate change urgency, this recent article (Earth Day 2024 report card) might give us some answers. Depoliticizing climate change is one of my favorite ones.
Today I share my painting “Treasure Island” (image). The inspiration for this work derived from my reflections about the early human explorations to mine and extract the finite “resources”: oil, gas, coal, gold, gems, metals… Humans unsustainably exploiting Earth’s womb…

“Changing Tides”, group exhibit of i3C artists and guests curated by i3C Rebecca McGee Tuck, at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, Hopkinton MA - July 3 to Aug 29, 2024 - Opening reception: Fri July 12, 2024 (5:30-7:30 pm).
