For those who celebrate, the holiday season is here!!!
First, the US Thanksgiving celebration coming up next week, a tradition that - while controversial regarding its origin - is rooted in the profound expression of gratitude to those in our lives, ingrained in the indigenous people’s beliefs, related to the harvest and the Earth’s providing what is needed for all natural life. Can we expand this gratitude to strangers, expand our empathy towards the diversity of humans and all other species alike, and make a common mission to leave this world in better shape than we found it?
While Thanksgiving dinner tends to have an extravagant amount of dishes - and I hope no food goes to waste! - I also love that this celebration is less about consumption of stuff than the rest of the holiday season. As we set into the gift-giving tradition that immediately follows, can we make an extra effort to disrupt consumerism, for example, choosing experience rather than things and buying from local businesses or individuals?
