About Corals and Postcards about Them

As the Bostonian Fall is finally starting to show with mild cold weather way past the middle of the official season, a report from a group of 160 scientists from 23 countries just announced that the planet has already reached its first major tipping point: the widespread death of warm-water coral reefs. This is mainly because of the rapidly rising marine temperatures - the Earth atmosphere is hotter so 90% of the heat is absorbed by the ocean - but also due to the ocean acidification that comes from more atmospheric CO2 interacting with water.
Corals represent 1% of the ocean floor but sustain 25% of ocean life. Without climate action, they could disappear by 2050. Fortunately, there are reliable organizations like the Coral Gardeners that work to restore the coral ecosystems. I hope you consider supporting them while continuing to fight the fossil fuels that brought us to this point.
