As I have mentioned in past communications, I strongly think Earth should be appreciated and respected every day. In any case, I am delighted that each Spring brings our love for our planet to mainstream media around April 22. As I look forward to this year’s celebrations, I am always fond of reading about my art in the article by Delainey LaHood-Burn and featured at GBH, “Meet the Greater Boston artists inspiring climate action through their work”, published two years ago, and along powerful articles about a few amazing fellow artists/climate activists in the Boston arts scene.
In preparation for this year’s Earth Day/Month, many individuals, industries, and organizations are acting to help resolve the urgent environmental challenges, through direct action or advocacy. Each of us has a chance to contribute as well: By voting for representatives that hold our values… or demanding those in power to implement urgent changes… While we adapt our choices of what we eat, wear, buy; what we plant in our gardens… We refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and repurpose… Create art with repurposed materials (like Pollution and the Gold II, image, painted on corrugated cardboard)? No action is too small…
About Art:
The Alchemy of Hope: Art for Climate Action, an exhibit I am sharing with Yuko Oda at Proctor Academy, Andover NH, is still on view until May 26, 2024. Contact here to plan a visit.
Reimagining Our World: Rejected Materials Reinvented, exhibit of i3C Artists and Guests, curated by Martha Heller and yours truly, at LexArt, 130 Waltham Street, Lexington MA, is currently on view until April 21, 2024. The opening reception was an amazing event. An inspiring conversation about creating art and beauty from society rejections… There is still time to see the exhibit and to attend two workshops:
o Waste Material Cordage workshop with exhibit artist Alma Baumwoll: Saturday, April 6, 1 - 3 pm. To register and more info here.
o Trash to Treasure workshop with exhibit artist Stevie Leigh Andrascik: Saturday, April 13, 10 am - 4 pm. To register and more info here.
Till next time!
